Your Healthcare Provider’s Practice and Philosophy
- What kind of practice do you have?
- Do you have a medical backup? If a complication of pregnancy develops, I will be transferred to the hospital and doctors unknown?
- If you are in a group practice, I always see you or I would see another doctor or doctors during my visit? How do I choose who I give my child?
- What is the percentage of babies you offer your patients?
- Your residents need to practice and trainees? Does one or more present at my birth?
- What is your general philosophy concerning pregnancy, childbirth and delivery?
- Will I be able to get a personalized birth plan? Will it be respected?
- What if I am past my due date?
- Do you have a home birth plan?
- Under what circumstances would you refer me to a specialist?
Logistics and Availability
- Are you in town and on call around my due date? If you can not deliver my baby, who will probably be there? If there is a chance that you will not be there, can I meet the doctor who can deliver my baby?
- What is the best way to contact you if I have an emergency? Are there times when you’re not available?
- Are you on emergency calls during the day? If not, who can I call?
- Where do you normally give birth? Do you have privileges at other hospitals or birthing centers?
- How many times have you schedule routine visits? How long is each visit usually last?
- What are the tests for you during my pregnancy? What if I have a concern about these tests?
Delivery
- How much time do you spend with me while I’m at labour?
